This type is almost a sans serif. It has legibility proportions, and a very large, useful family with specially adapted condensed and extended sub-families.

Compared with type set by older technologies, PostScript type, imageset and printed by high-resolution offset lithography, has a remarkable clarity at any size.

While many types, old and new, benefit from this level of definition, few designs specifically exploit it.

Beaufort does. Its pointed serifs introduce a sharpness of reproduction that was difficult to achieve, at any size, prior to PostScript.

This means that small sizes of Beaufort will combine a high word count with good legibility, while large sizes will always display very fine detail.

Optical scaling is not required. More In style, Beaufort has a number of affinities. In particular, the bold romans recall a kind of grotesque with small serifs style popular with sign painters and package lettering artists in the early 20th century, and still going strong.

In proportion, the basic Beaufort is in the vein of the classic oldstyle types that descend from Granjon, via the French Oldstyles, or Elzevirs, to Plantin and Times in the early twentieth century.

Designed for optimum clarity, readibility, and word count, these types have a pronounced angle of stress in the lower case, which is quite large and fairly narrow in relation to the caps.

None of the caps are exceptionally narrow, and both cases have an evenness of width that makes for a no-nonsense, orthodox appearance.

The strength of the capitals distinguishes these types from those of another optimizing era, the 1970s and 80s, when puny caps made for monotonous text.

However, strong though they may be, Beauforts caps are not as obtrusive in text as those of Times or Plantin.

Download Orpheus Pro™ Fonts by Canada Type

Download Orpheus Pro™ Fonts by Canada Type The original Orpheus design by Walter Tiemann (1926-1928, Klingspor) was certainly a masterpiece. Unfortunately, like so many typefaces of that between-wars era, it got overlooked when type technology changed over to film, and once again when digital type came around. But during the decade or so when it was available on the metal type market, it was quite popular in Germany. Tiemann was already famous for having an incomparable instinct for the construct and proportions of classic Roman caps, something that shows in spades here, but the surprising genius of Orpheus at the time was how it managed to seamlessly combine an expert vision of the traditional empire caps with a lowercase that showcases a very fine and precise infusion of that efficient rhythm of modern minimalism that was all the rage in Germany at the time, which of course lives on to this very day. More The italic companion to the original Orpheus roman was rel...

Confident and versatile, Lust is an exercise in indulgencean attempt to create something over the top and vastly useful. More If Lust seems both new and familiar, thats because it is. The series unapologetically channels Herb Lubalin, but produced with a deliberate, contemporary twist. There is an intentional slyness infused in the letterformsthe extreme thick and thin lines flow effortlessly without becoming gratuitous. Its always just enough, not too much. What makes the type series so appealing? The curves. When asked to describe the letterforms, most people unwittingly allude to the human form, using adjectives usually reserved for describing physical traits creating all-too-familiar comparisons. Summerour has grown to accept this as unavoidab...

Download Hudson NY Fonts by Andrew Footit Hudson NY is a display font that gives you strong and bold typography with three different styles that make up the family, a regular, serif and slab serif. Hudson NY is an adaptation and progression of Roper Font, and like Roper font it comes in regular and a press versions, giving the user some cool options when creating artwork. The golden thread that ties this family together is its American sports and college styling, it gives Hudson NY an authentic look but at the same time there is a modern approach to the character set. I would like to thank the talented Kurt Dee for allowing me to use his awesome pictures of New York City to create this the overall theme for this project, please go check out his instagram @kurtdee.
